Announcing the Childhood Obesity Prevention Project

The NC Division of Public Health is pleased to announce the Childhood Obesity Prevention Project for state fiscal year 2008/09. The purpose of this project is to demonstrate that strengthening partner linkages within community sectors increases the utilization and effectiveness of childhood obesity prevention and control efforts. Grants will support implementation of recommended strategies to reduce the rates of childhood overweight and obesity. The Childhood Obesity Prevention Project will provide funding for four grants at a maximum of $475,000.00 each.

Eligibility:

Competitive grant applications will be accepted from local health departments and their community partners. Local health departments that can demonstrate the ability to function effectively in all settings in their county (including preschool, school, healthcare, worksite, faith and community) are eligible. Priority will be given to those that can demonstrate a strong partnership and that qualified, trained personnel are identified and ready to begin implementation of the project interventions as soon as the award is made.

Application Process:

Successful applicants will complete a two-step process. All applicants were required to submit a Brief Proposal by Wednesday, August 6th, 2008. These proposals are currently being reviewed. A limited number of applicants will be invited to submit a Grant Application due by 5:00 PM ET on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008.
